Bike Man

I believe that what this man did inspired many people do better their country in many ways. If something as much as a bike donated to a person with desire and passion for a cause can change something, then why are we not as generous as we should be? Donate for a good cause and maybe something great will come from it, just as the man in the movie did. -dfb-

Native Americans Video

Native Americans have been around for many years. Each day, more and more Native Americans are dyeing. This is due to people intruding their towns or villages and stealing their land. Settlers made rules the Native Americans had to follow and they even took their kids away from their families. These settlers came in and enforced many other harsh and unfair rules the Native Americans had to follow. This is wrong in many ways but no one stepped up and said or did anything about it. This has been going on for years now and it is surprisingly still a problem today. A lot of people never knew this was going on in Maine because the people who are doing these things did not want the public to know about it and start questioning it. In other states, people knew about what was going on and they still did not do anything about it because it was not effecting the personally. They figured someone else would step in and fix the problem. Americans need to know the truth about this problem! What we did to them and still are is very wrong in many ways.

Bike Dude

This post is about the movie about Emanuel, the man with one leg who only wanted a bicycle. I think Emanuel's goal of creating change through action was inspiring. When faced with applying for a grant Americans ask for money. It takes lots of money to even apply for the grant money. This man only wanted a bicycle. Little did he know this bicycle would change his life. I think what is most amazing about Emanual is his sense of social responsibility. He could have easily stayed in the US and lived his life however he chose to return to his country and give back more than what he received. We in the United States view this as amazing while he just views it as his life goal. Emanuel the man who only wanted a bike is truly amazing

John Q

The movie John Q is about the issues with health care in America. This movie follows a hard working man and his family. John (the main character) has a son who is diagnosed with a heart condition after collapsing at a baseball game. In need of a heart transplant, the boy is unable to qualify for the transplant list because the family's HMO would not cover it. John in a moment of crisis creates a hostage situation at the hospital demanding his son be put on the list. This shows how many people fall through cracks in the American health care system. For this little boy it was a necessary sugary in order for him to live and initially he was unable to receive it due to the fact that insurance would not cover it. This is wrong! We have pretty advanced medical technology but if something is not done about our health care system that will not matter. We do not have the exact answer to what to do about the health care system but something needs to be done.

Sicko

As a group we have mixed feelings about the movie Sicko. There is no doubt that something has to be done about health care in the United States, but given Michael Moore's history one can't help but wonder how much of what he is saying is factual and what is exaggerated. As we said before something needs to be done about health care. The US has one of the most technologically advanced medical systems in the world but only for those who can afford it. It is a shame that we can't figure out how to make that system available to every one whether they have money or not. If a country like France (whose citizens always protest about everything) can figure it out why can't we. One's answer may be it is because we are much bigger than countries like france and that is part of the issue. We ask that person to look at the Canadian health care system. It is true that other health care systems have their issues but, there has to be a better solution than what we currently have

Video

I had missed class on the first day of the video, but from what I saw on the second part I do not believe life was fair for the Native Americans. I understand that the nation was and still is at a constant growth, but the settlers do not have a right to invade and take over. We should have adapted to their culture and followed their rules as much as possible, without stealing their land for our own needs.

Video

I think the video we watched was pretty eye opening. Often people detach themselves from a negative situation. In Maine many people know about what hapend with the native American's in other parts of the country, but fail to identify how we as a population treated native Americans locally. I personally know many people who live in Indian township when they talk about where they live and their tradition it is pretty fascinating. It is a shame that such an awesome group of people had their land stolen by people who felt like it was their privilege to take it when it was not.

Video

I think that the video that we watched in class would be better understood if we realized that this was happening at a younger age. Why didn't I ever get thought this when we were studying the Indians. I think that America is worse off then I thought. We have taken land that is not ours and tried to tare appart families of indian descent. I am completely disgusted with what Maine did and believe that more people should get the facts straight when educating children.

Chapter 3- Epidemiology

Having a reporting system in place for that can warn others about certain diseases and outbreaks is a very important way to provide protection and information to our country. Having this makes us fell safe. Epidemiology is important because it allows us to study what is going on in regards to disease and injury. This allows for us to look at the origins of disease and injury and how to prevent it from happening in the future. Epidemiology is an interesting field that would be fun to explore more of. We all find that taking the epidemiology class would be a fun and interesting challenge!
